This is It: Troika Starts Today

Hey Guys - I wanted to take off the Bullbot mask and write one final post before the festival starts later today. Starting at 7:00pm, we will be celebrating the culmination of over one hundred hours of planning meetings, thousands of hours of practice from our musicians, and countless more volunteer hours of coordinating and making sure everything is going to happen just right so that we, the fans and musicians of the triangle and beyond, can come together and celebrate what has been called one of the "most vibrant music scenes on this here planet."

No where else can you find such a unique festival that celebrates this caliber of music while remaining loyally local. Some of our bands have headlined their own national tours, many have toured other continents, and most have been heard live outside of this small area of the country (but we have some best kept secrets hiding in the lineup as well). A lot of what is sung and played here sets the tone for the greater American music scene, whether it's Megafaun, Lonnie Walker or the Bowerbirds pushing the limits of indie-americana-alt-twang-whatever or it's Pipe, Red Collar and the Dry Heathens equally pushing the limits of what is and should be punk-rock. So come out and enjoy the Scene. It's yours to make what you want of it, much like what myself and the rest of the Troika volunteers have done with this wonderful festival.

Tickets are no longer available online, but you can purchase passes and single night tickets tonight at any venue. We have distributed tons, and tons of schedules around town, but if you need another one, please use our mobile schedule. Also, Check out some of the highlights from the Bullbot Blog below and follow us on Twitter (#troika2009) all weekend long for up-to-the-minute artist updates and other fun stuff.

Food: Free Coffee from Beyu, Backdoor Pizza at Rock Paper Scissors
Interviews: Birds of Avalon, Megafaun, Molly Bancroft (cancelled for Troika)
Other: Schedule, Rock Paper Scissors vendors, Troika the Movie

Lastly, check out the Indy's music blog for their profiles, picks and updates.

See you tonight, and help make a Scene!

Another Great Sponsor, 307 Knox Records!

Hey Durham, do you know 307 Knox Records?

You might not know you know them, but Melissa Thomas and Alicia Loggie are 307 Knox Records, a Durham-based record label, focusing on up and coming artists across a range of genres and locales. The label started as a purely local focus, but as artists crossed their path, they couldn't help but reach out beyond Durham's boundaries. Melissa has been involved with Troika since it was the Durham Music Festival and Alicia ended up moving to Durham after experiencing Troika 2006. The festival means a lot to 307 Knox, because it's a way to stay connected and give back to the Durham music community, even when their working outside Durham,. This year's Troika is especially important to them after the death of their friend and compatriot, Alex Nathan.

Go out and support your local labels during Troika 2009!
